OUR REFORESTATION DAY - OR HOW TO MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT
For us at My Kitchen And Me (MKME), one of our missions is to do our part in global reforestation. Why do we focus on planting trees?
The importance of trees goes far beyond the process of CO₂ absorption and O₂ production. Trees are shelters for many animal species, provide food, control temperature, promote soil erosion with their roots and serve to capture and filter water, absorb and clean the environment, and many other functions.
In addition to all the properties mentioned above, trees are beautiful and have a therapeutic function in humans, so much so that they are considered antidepressants and beneficial in some psychological disorders. That is why in honor and gratitude to Mother Earth, MKME has made true what it promised to do, a day of reforestation in the Dominican Republic, the country of origin of our founder, Ana Maria Bonifacio, together with the Ministry of Environment.
What did we do?
My Kitchen And Me (MKME) planted a variety of trees in the Dominican Republic.
In the activity held last month, different types of trees were planted for a total of 100 plants of the species Oreja (Enterolobium cyclocarpum), Guazara (Eugenia dominguensis) and Mara (Swietenia macrophylla King). These varieties are on the verge of disappearing due to their feeling for charcoal production and their use in cabinetmaking.
Where?
Parque Nacional Humedales del Ozama
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Parque Nacional Humedales del Ozama has two primary functions
Recreational activities for locals
To balance the growth of the rivers with forestation and to help control soil erosion.
Who collaborated with us?
Ministry of Environment of the Dominican Republic.
In addition to the participation of some staff members of the company based in California, USA, the reforestation day had among the volunteers some representatives of the Ministry of Environment of the Dominican Republic, including Mr. Antonio Jose Romero, former Brigade Manager of the Ministry of Environment of the Parque Nacional Humedales del Ozama, who served as a guide and instructor during the planting process.
We want to thank all those who in one way or another participated in our first reforestation day, and we want to say that we will continue working to make our planet better than it is today.
Thank you
Ana Maria Bonifacio
